It seems that the number of people taking legal action against former employees is on the up, rather unsurprisingly given the state of the economy. We talk in more depth on this subject on our contact an employment lawyer form.

As Corinne Day of Lawdit Solicitors notes, the Employment Tribunal Service has recently released statistics showing a rise in claims for unfair dismissal (+29%), breach of contract (+31%), redundancy pay (+48%).
In the current economic climate both employers and employees need to be absolutely certain of their legal position and to be sure that they are acting fairly and being treated fairly in the eyes of the law. Poor judgement and actions on the part of an employer can be very costly (the biggest award on recent record was for over £1.3 million for an extreme and shocking case of discrimination).
The current economic climate being tough does not bear any weight in a courtroom – the law stands fast through an economic downturn.
If you have been made redundant recently then you should seek legal advice, pronto. It is a murky world and pride often holds people back but there in no cost or shame in having a discussion with a lawyer to find out if you have a case and we can put you in touch with someone who can guide and advise you.
